Claire R. Sharp, BSc, BVMS, MS, DACVECC

Claire is a senior lecturer in small animal emergency and critical care (ECC) in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia. Claire is also the section head of ECC in The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University and provides academic oversight to the community blood bank at The Animal Hospital.

Claire is a 2002 Murdoch University veterinary school graduate. After a few years in general and emergency practice in Canberra, Australia, Claire moved to the US to undertake her specialty training. Claire completed a rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Oklahoma State University, followed by an ECC internship, residency and masters degree at the University of Missouri. Claire was subsequently an Assistant Professor at the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, outside of Boston, from 2009 to 2015, before returning to Australia.

Claire remains involved in the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, as well as the ECC Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. Claire’s research interests include sepsis, trauma, respiratory medicine, biomarkers of disease, transfusion medicine, immune mediated diseases, and many other aspects of ECC.
