Increase uric acid levels

Pain, swelling at injection site, renal dysfunction, increased liver enzymes.

BABESIOSIS

    

B. canis canis

Imidocarb dipropionate

5.0-6.6 mg/kg IM or SC

Once, then repeat 2-3 weeks

Uncommon salivation, lacrimation, diarrhoea, vomiting, muscle tremor, pain on injection.

B. gibsoni

Ataquavone in combination with azithromycin

13.3 mg/kg PO + 10 mg/kg PO

q8 hrs + q24 hrs for 10 days

 

B. felis

Primiquine phosphate

0.3 mg/kg PO

q24 hrs for 14 days

 

EHRLICHIOSIS

    
 

Doxycycline

Dogs: 5-10 mg/kg PO

Cats: 5 mg/kg PO

q12-24 h for 14-21 days

Stain teeth in first month of life and in last trimester pregnancy. Anorexia especially in cats, vomiting, diarrhoea.

ANAPLASMOSIS

    
 

Oxytetracycline

Dogs and cats 7-11 mg/kg IM, SC

Dogs 25 mg/kg PO

q8 h for 14-21 days

DIROFILARIOSIS

    
 

Melarsomine

Protocol A 2.2 mg/kg IM or Protoocol B 2.5 mg/kg IM

Once then again at 3 h

Once then repeat at 24 h

Dosing protocol dependant on clinical classification. Subclinical disease: Protocols A or B Moderate disease: Protocol B Severe: Single2.5 mg/kg treatment followed by Protocol B 1-2 months later.
